Coroner identifies Ridgeland pedestrian killed Tuesday in hit-and-run on Hilton Head

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a pedestrian who was killed by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night on Hilton Head Island.

Elenilson Viches, 52, of Ridgeland, died at Hilton Head Hospital around 7:49 p.m. after being hit by an unknown vehicle, according to Deputy Coroner Andrew McNeese and Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, a South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesperson.

Viches was trying to cross the street on U.S. 278 near Wildhorse Road about 6:45 p.m. when he was hit, Ridgeway said.

The vehicle that hit him was heading east at the time of the crash and left the area.
