2 crashes in Port Royal blocking afternoon traffic on Parris Island Gateway, police say

Two car crashes on Parris Island Gateway occurring within minutes of each other are blocking evening traffic through Port Royal, according to alerts sent from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The first accident occurred at the intersection of Parris Island Gateway and Midtown Drive. All southbound lanes of the highway are blocked as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

The second accident took place at the intersection of Parris Island Gateway and Grober Hill Road and is blocking all lanes of the highway. Two adults and one minor were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to Capt. John Griffith, a spokesperson for the Port Royal Police Department.

Police are advising drivers to seek out alternate routes.

Details about the types of vehicles involved and whether there are injuries were not immediately available.
