Bluffton woman killed after vehicle veers off Cross Island Parkway on Hilton Head

A Bluffton woman was killed in a car crash early Saturday on Hilton Head Island’s Cross Island Parkway.

Haley Hubner, 23, of Bluffton, died at the scene, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner Andrew McNece. He said Hubner was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

She was a passenger in a 1996 Honda sedan that was traveling east on the Cross Island near U.S. 278 about 1 a.m. when it veered off the side of the road and struck a tree, said Lance Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Hubner and the driver were the only people in the vehicle, Pye said.

The crash remained under investigation Saturday afternoon. Additional details about the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
