Lanes on Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge to be closed for inspection. When to expect delays

Starting Saturday, drivers may see more delays than usual going back and forth from Beaufort and Jasper counties to Savannah across the Talmadge Bridge.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be closing lanes of U.S. 17 daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, through Wednesday, Aug. 31. Single, right-hand northbound and southbound lanes will be affected.

Inclement weather may change these plans. The National Weather Service forecast includes a 70% chance of rain for the Savannah area on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

A news release from GDOT says the work is part of routine data collection and structure inspection.
