Cyclist airlifted to hospital after getting hit by truck in Old Town Bluffton, cops say

A bike rider was struck by a truck shortly after noon Wednesday in Old Town Bluffton, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

The accident occurred on the intersection of Pritchard Street and Bridge Street, right in front of Bluffton Town Hall.

The cyclist was airlifted to Savannah Memorial Hospital for treatment. Updates on his condition were not immediately available, according to Sgt. Bonifacio Perez, a spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department.

The accident occurred as the driver, in a yellow Ram pickup, attempted a turn onto Pritchard Street.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
