Traffic building after all lanes of May River Road blocked by crash in Bluffton

An accident on May River Road near Palmetto Bluff Road has backed up traffic Friday afternoon along the busy Bluffton route.

All lanes of May River Road are blocked while emergency services work to clear the roadway, according to a news release sent just before 2:30 p.m. from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Maj. Bob Bromage, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said the crash involved a single vehicle. The driver was injured and transported to a local hospital.

He said, in addition to Sheriff’s Office personnel, the South Carolina Highway Patrol was on the scene for an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Drivers should expect delays for the next couple of hours, Bromage said.

The type of vehicle involved was not immediately available.
