2 men killed in separate Jasper County motorcycle crashes in less than 12 hours

A motorcycle crash along Interstate 95 on Tuesday morning killed a North Carolina, man.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Pye said a rider on a 1997 Honda motorcycle was headed north on the interstate around 8:45 a.m. when the motorcycle ran off the road to the left and struck the guard rail. The accident occurred around the 25-mile marker between Ridgeland and Coosawhatchie.

Jasper County Coroner Willie Aiken identified the motorcycle rider as Aaron Pierce, 31, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Pierce was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Aiken said.

Pierce’s death was the second fatality involving a motorcycle in less than 12 hours in Jasper County.

Late Monday night, a motorcycle and a Ford sedan collided head-on along S.C. 315 in the Levy area, killing the motorcycle rider and sending the driver of the sedan to the hospital.

The coroner identified the man killed in that crash as Scott Haddy, 51, of Bluffton. Haddy was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The crashes remain under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol, the Hardeeville Police Department and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.
