Construction on Beaufort Co.’s US 278 starts soon and lasts through June. What to know

Construction on sections of U.S. 278 between Bluffton’s Buck Island Road and Hilton Head Island’s Wild Horse Road begins Sunday and is expected to continue through June, according to a news release from Edisto Contracting.

Edisto Contracting is performing the construction alongside the S.C. Department of Transportation.

The work is scheduled to take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. with expected lane closures.

Drivers are advised to use caution when driving through the construction zone.

Work is scheduled for Sunday and Monday between Buckingham Plantation Drive and Salt Marsh Drive then for Tuesday and Wednesday at the intersection of Squire Pope Road and Chamberlin Drive.

Dates and locations for further construction were not immediately available.

This construction is separate from SCDOT’s proposed project for the U.S. 278 Corridor, including a new Hilton Head Island bridge, which residents have until the end of day Saturday to submit public comment on.
