Driver hospitalized after crash on US 278 near I-95. Officials say to expect delays

A driver was hospitalized after a two-car collision on Friday afternoon on U.S. 278 near I-95, according to officials.

Traffic delays are expected after the crash involving two SUVs at U.S. 278 and John Smith Road, according to Hardeeville Fire Department Chief Joey Rowell.

Google Maps showed slowdowns along U.S. 278 and on I-95 around 4 p.m.

Rowell said one driver was “extricated” from the crash and taken to a local hospital. Fire officials got to the scene at around 3:50 p.m., he estimated.

A traffic alert said a driver was entrapped from the crash.

Hardeeville Fire Department, Hardeeville Police Department, and Jasper County EMS are all at the scene, he said.
