Collision between bicyclist, SUV claims life of Okatie man. Here’s what we know.

A bicyclist has died from injuries he sustained in a collision with an SUV Thursday afternoon on private property in Okatie, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The man was riding a bike north when he collided with the southbound SUV, said Lance Cpl. Nick Pye of the Highway Patrol. The bicycle rider was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and then to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where he later died, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office said.

Deputy Coroner Andrew McNece identified the man as Henry Hearn of Okatie. He was 74. The Highway Patrol did not identify the SUV driver, who was not injured.

The collision, which occurred at 3:17 p.m. on private property at 288 Spring Island Drive in Okatie, is under investigation by the Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team and that’s why additional details are not being released at this time, Pye said.
