Savannah bridges re-opening after tractor-trailer crash Tuesday afternoon, police say
Two bridges that closed in Savannah following an afternoon single-vehicle crash began re-opening Tuesday evening, according to the Chatham County Police Department.
The Talmadge Bridge and the Back River Bridge are re-opened as of 5:43 p.m., Chatham County Police spokesperson Betsy Nolan said. Both bridges were fully closed as of around 1 p.m. after a single-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer, said Bianca Johnson, spokesperson for the Savannah Police Department.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area entirely, she said.
Johnson said Savannah police were called to the scene at 12:23 p.m.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with traffic on the South Carolina side of the bridge. The Chatham County Police Department and emergency vehicles are on the scene as well.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
