Crash at SC 170 and Highway 21 intersection cleared, traffic flowing again, police say

This story has been updated.

An accident Monday afternoon on S.C. 170 and Highway 21 in Beaufort tied up afternoon traffic, according to an alert from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred before 4:40 p.m. Monday at the busy intersection, the alert said. All eastbound lanes of S.C. 170 and northbound lanes on Highway 21 were blocked following the crash, the alert said.

The crash involved two cars and marks the second crash Monday at that intersection, according to City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department spokesperson Ross Vezin. The crash was “fairly minor,” Vezin said, and both occupants were transported to local area hospitals for treatment.

As of 5:04 p.m., all lanes were open, and traffic was flowing normally, according to an alert from the Sheriff’s Office.
