Coroner identifies woman, 18, killed in I-95 crash early Sunday morning in Ridgeland

The person who died in a crash early Sunday morning on I-95 has been identified as a Ridgeland woman, the Jasper County Coroner’s Office said.

Sandra Bustillo Hernandez, 18, of Ridgeland, was a passenger in a car that crashed early Sunday morning on I-95 in Ridgeland, according to a Jasper County Coroner’s Office Facebook post. The car crashed into a tree near mile marker 16 in Ridgeland, according to the post. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:30 a.m., Coroner Willie P. Aiken III said.

The Ridgeland Police Department is investigating the crash, Aiken said.

A spokesperson for the Ridgeland Police Department could not immediately be reached Thursday morning.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
