One injured, lane shut down after construction van crashes on SC 170 in Bluffton

UPDATE: As of around 10:45 a.m., the roadway has been cleared, though a tow truck is still working to move the car, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

One person was injured in a crash on S.C. 170 in Bluffton in which a construction van rolled over and landed on the side of the road Wednesday morning.

The driver of the construction van was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Bluffton Township Fire District Capt. Randy Hunter.

A spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department said the hospital was Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Bluffton fire officials were dispatched to the crash around 9:15 a.m., Hunter said. It occurred on S.C. 170 past the Heritage New Riverside neighborhood at the viaduct.

One lane of S.C. 170 heading toward Savannah is blocked, according to Hunter.

Around 9:46 a.m., he anticipated traffic would be affected for another hour.

The Bluffton Police Department is investigating the crash.

Sgt. Bonifacio Perez, with Bluffton police, said the driver’s injuries were non-life threatening.
