Driver hospitalized after van crashes into home in Old Town Bluffton

A work van crashed into an Old Town Bluffton home Saturday afternoon, and the driver was airlifted because of injuries, officials said on Sunday.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into the home around 4 p.m., said Capt. Randy Hunter, spokesman for the Bluffton Township Fire District.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was transported by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. No information was available about the status of the driver’s injuries on Sunday.

No one was in the home at the time of the crash, Hunter said.

Capt. Joe Babkiewicz of the Bluffton Police Department said the van could not be immediately removed because it was holding up one of the corners of the home in the 200 block of Goethe Road.

He said on Sunday that the wreck remains under investigation.
