Traffic alert: Crash near Sun City shuts down all eastbound lanes on US 278 Saturday

A crash on U.S. 278 has shut down all eastbound lanes of Bluffton and Okatie’s major thoroughfare on Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. at the entrance to Sun City Hilton Head. Two cars were involved and there were injuries to the people involved in the crash, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Bob Bromage.

One car is in the center of the intersection and the other appears to have crashed into the Sun City sign, drivers passing by reported.

Fire trucks and ambulances were on the scene, according to Beaufort County traffic cameras. Traffic is being diverted to Argent Boulevard, Bromage said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Drivers should use S.C. 170 or Argent Boulevard to avoid the area.

Google Maps showed a 30-minute delay as of 3:30 p.m.
