Afternoon crash on SC 170 in Okatie injures two drivers, shuts down 1 lane of traffic

UPDATE: The crash has been cleared, and the lane of traffic has reopened, according to authorities.

Two drivers were injured and one lane of traffic closed on S.C. 170 in Okatie Wednesday afternoon after a crash in which one vehicle flipped, according to authorities.

Bluffton Township Fire District responded to a call at 3 p.m. after an Okatie Highway crash near Snake Road left two people trapped in their cars, according to Randy Hunter, public information officer with the agency.

The two have since been “extracted and transported to a local hospital,” he said.

One lane of traffic heading west toward Hardeeville has been closed by authorities as they clear the scene.

Bluffton’s fire agency along with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County Fire-Rescue, and Beaufort County EMS responded to the scene.

S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

A photo sent by Bluffton Township Fire District shows firefighters working to get the flipped car upright.
