Lanes on SC 170 closed after morning rush hour crash. Expect delays
A three-car collision on S.C. 170 near Okatie caused two drivers to seek medical attention, lanes to shut down and delays during Wednesday’s morning rush hour, authorities say.
Police got a call at 8 a.m. that a tree-trimming equipment vehicle was rear ended by an SUV, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Matt Southern. The wheel for the vehicle came off, hitting a third car on the highway and causing traffic to shut down.
The driver of the truck has been taken to Tidewatch Urgent Care at Coastal Carolina Hospital. The driver of the SUV has been taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Southern said.
All lanes going east toward Beaufort were closed off, and one lane headed west toward Hardeeville was temporarily closed.
Southern said authorities are working on reopening the lanes. Traffic is being routed through the median along the wreck scene.
