Crash on US 278 clear, but Hilton Head bridge traffic still moving slowly

A two-car crash on U.S. 278 on Hilton Head Island near Jenkins Island at the base of the bridge backed up eastbound traffic on Friday morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

As of 9:30 a.m., the crash was cleared but traffic was still moving slowly across the bridge.

One person has minor injuries after the rear-end crash, Maj. Bob Bromage with the Sheriff’s Office told The Island Packet.

Google Maps was showing a delay of 10 minutes as of 9:30 a.m.

On Hilton Head, eastbound traffic was moving freely again at the entrance to the Cross Island Parkway, according to traffic cameras.
