Eastbound lane shut down on Hilton Head bridge during morning rush. Here’s why

A disabled vehicle on the bridges to Hilton Head Island shut down the left eastbound lane in the middle of the morning rush, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

There were no injuries related to the disabled vehicle, which is located on the Skull Creek bridge, said Maj. Bob Bromage, the public information officer with the sheriff’s office.

Traffic was backed up past the Tanger One outlets, and Fording Island Road seemed to be moving slower than Bluffton Parkway, traffic cameras showed.

Wreckers were called to the scene to remove the vehicle, the release said.

Earlier this morning, an accident created congestion at the bottom of the Skull Creek bridge, the release said.

Google Maps showed a 42-minute delay at 8:20 a.m.
