Beaufort-area highway reopens after dump truck rolled over, injured driver

A dump truck carrying rocks and sand rolled over Monday morning at the intersection of Trask Parkway and Buckfield Road, closing all northbound lanes of the popular Beaufort-area passage to I-95 for over an hour, according to the Yemassee Police Department.

The truck rolled over around 9 a.m., trapping the driver inside, the police department said in a release.

The driver was removed from the truck by the Sheldon Fire Department and transported by ambulance to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Yemassee Police Department public information officer Matthew Garnes told The Island Packet.

As of 11:15 a.m., the highway was reopened to all traffic, he said.

The S.C. Department of Transportation was called to the scene to remove the sand and rocks from the road. A wrecker removed the dump truck from the scene.

All northbound lanes were closed for nearly an hour as police officers directed all traffic through the area using the southbound lanes, Garnes said.
