Driver identified in fatal car crash Wednesday north of Yemassee
A driver was killed early Wednesday in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 21 northeast of Yemassee, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey identified the driver as James Peterson, 57, of Bamberg.
Peterson’s 2000 Mercury Marquis was traveling on U.S. 21, known as Lowcountry Highway, near S.C. 17 in Colleton County about 2:25 a.m. when it ran off the left side of the road in a curve and struck several trees, said Cpl. Sonny Collins of the Highway Patrol.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was the only one in the vehicle, Collins said.
