Hilton Head motorcycle vs. car crash blocked Cross Island traffic
A crash temporarily blocked one westbound lane of U.S. 278 Monday afternoon, Beaufort County traffic cameras showed.
A motorcycle and a car collided at 4:20 p.m. and no one was transported to the hospital, Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Joheida Fister said Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred where the Cross Island Parkway joins William Hilton Parkway. Shortly before 5 p.m., the lane was opened and emergency vehicles, a tow truck and the involved vehicle still on scene were moved to the left shoulder. By about 5:40 p.m., the scene was cleared and traffic appeared to be flowing normally.
Traffic exiting the Cross Island Parkway merged with westbound traffic on William Hilton Parkway slightly further back, before the lanes converge, the camera showed. When the lanes reopened, they continued down the lane as usual, but with a slightly wider berth near the emergency vehicles.
