Lanes reopened after multi-vehicle crash at May River Road, Okatie Highway
As of about 8:20 a.m., all lanes of Okatie Highway in Bluffton are open following a three-vehicle accident with multiple injuries Wednesday morning near the traffic circle at intersection of May River Road.
The accident, which happened around 7:15 a.m., closed one eastbound lane of the highway for about an hour, Bluffton Police Department spokeswoman Joy Nelson said.
Traffic into Bluffton remained slow as of about 8:30 a.m.
The wreck sent two people to local hospitals with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, Nelson said. A third person was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Nelson said the accident was “a chain reaction” that occurred after the lead car slowed down and the trailing two cars rear-ended the vehicles in front.
At one point, traffic was at a near standstill from the traffic circle to the Beaufort County line.
