Survey says: SC is home to really rude drivers who steal parking spots, never use signals

Are South Carolina drivers really that rude?

A recent survey by the Drive Human campaign found that South Carolina is home to some of the rudest drivers in the U.S., only behind New York.

You read that right. New York, a state filled with drivers who use their horns as a common form of communication, is the only Yankee state with worse ratings than South Carolina. So much for southern charm.

The survey asked drivers in 50 states questions like “How often do you signal,” “Would you steal someone’s parking spot”, and graded each state’s response. Here’s a rundown of South Carolina findings:

  • B - How aggressively do you respond to slow driving?
  • A+ Do you let a car merge in front of you in heavy traffic?D Do you respond rudely when being tailgated?
  • C + Do you use your turning signals?
  • B + Would you steal someone's parking spot?
  • A+ Would you speed up to stop someone from passing you?

Ouch, South Carolina.

But are we really surprised?

South Carolina ranks third worst in the nation for drivers, according to a 2016 study by CarInsuranceComparison.com. The report ranks states based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Each state is ranked based on fatality rate per 100 million vehicular miles and on citations for failure to obey, drunken driving, speeding, and careless driving.
