Hilton Head Audubon president to discuss Christmas birds
The president of the Hilton Head Island Audubon Society will discuss the annual "Christmas Bird Count" coming up this winter.
Robert Rommel, who is also a local wildlife photographer and author, will present "Christmas Birds Countdown" at 7 p.m. Dec. 9, at First Presbyterian Church's Fellowship Hall, 540 William Hilton Parkway.
Rommel will discuss the project and which birds residents are likely to see during the count.
The presentation is free and open to the public without registration.
The longest running "Citizen Science" survey in the world, the bird count is an international event, providing critical data on bird population trends.
The bird count is Dec. 14 for Hilton Head and Dec. 19 for Okatie and Sun City.
