Waddell Center hosts donation ceremony, celebrates new generators
The Waddell Mariculture Center in Bluffton will host a donation ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday to celebrate the two new generators capable of keeping all 25 outdoor fish ponds going in the event of a power outage.
The Coastal Conservation Association of South Carolina provided the two generators this week in order to provide uninterrupted power to continue the research of many important species of fish, according to a CCA South Carolina news release.
The center is a field experiment station of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and is one of the country’s largest and most sophisticated facilities for mariculture research.
The 1,200 acre property located at Victoria Bluff holds striped bass, white bass and their hybrids, two sturgeon species, cobia, whiting, red drum, black drum, black sea bass, flounder, spotted sea trout, tilapia, seven species of marine shrimp, freshwater prawns, hard clams, bay scallops and oysters.
