Beaufort locals and visitors watch solar eclipse from courtyard of the historic Arsenal

Several watch parties for the solar eclipse happened throughout Beaufort County including at all of the Beaufort County branch libraries.

The Beaufort Branch offered families free eclipse glasses and stood within the confines of in The Arsenal’s courtyard home to the Beaufort History Museum with a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party.

In 2017, our region had the opportunity to see the eclipse in totality, but overcast skies made it difficult to witness.

Several school and businesses offered watch parties.

Beaufort Academy offered free glasses and the opportunity to view the eclipse from the football field.

The Beaufort Inn also gave an elevated experience by having a watch party from the rooftop of their event space at Old Bay Marketplace Loft.

For this year’s eclipse, Jeremy Nelson, a meteorologist with Savannah’s WJCL TV 22 posted that viewers in the Savannah-area and Lowcountry would see the 70% coverage of the eclipse at 3:08 p.m. when the moon passed between the earth and the sun.
