BE JOYFUL

Don't miss out on the opportunity to attend the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company's one-night performance, kicking off the new year in grand style at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

Taylor is considered one of the foremost American choreographers of the 20th century and is among the last living members of the second generation of America's modern dance artists. The American choreographer formed Taylor 2 Dance Company in 1993, which has been described as "a younger sibling to the Paul Taylor Dance Company."

In addition to the performance, a master dance class will be presented by a company member at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Here's a chance to be hear the extraordinary talent of Elliot Wuu and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra's performance of "Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique." The concert showcases Wuu, first-prize winner of the 2015 Hilton Head International Piano Competition for Young Artists.

Born in Fremont, Calif., in September 1999, Wuu has been studying piano since age six and is a pre-college scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Performances are 4 p.m. Sunday and 8 p.m. Jan. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island. For tickets, go to www.hhso.org or call 843-842-2055

SATURDAY

Chow down on a variety of seafood soups at the at the third annual Chowder Challenge and Silent Auction. Vote for your favorite chowder prepared by local restaurant chefs who will be competing for the People's Choice and Judge awards.

The event is from noon until 4 p.m at Reilley's Plaza on Greenwood Drive, Hilton Head.

The celebration includes a silent auction, kids' zone and live music by The Headliners. The event benefits The Heather Trew Foundation for organ, eye and tissue donation.

BE ACTIVE

Keep up the good work on your new year's fitness kick by participating in the Resolution Run 5K race on Dataw Island. The fifth annual event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and benefits Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity. Participants can run or walk the course. A free kids' sea turtle survival challenge begins at 9 p.m.

A free health fair from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at the Dataw Island Community Center, 43 Marina Drive, has been added to this year's event.

Register for the 5K online at www.runsignup.com, or on the day of the race or at the health fair. The entry fee is $30.
