Be active
Start the new year off as an eco-conscious Beaufort County resident and head over to one of the county's 11 recycling centers to dispose of your Christmas tree.
Place your tree in the yard-waste bins for it to be converted into boiler fuel for energy generation. Don't forget to remove ornaments, lights and other decorations.
The county is not offering the Grinding of the Greens mulch program this year because not enough residents were picking up mulch created by the recycling, according to the county. However, the towns of Hilton Head Island and Port Royal will continue the tree mulch program.
Curbside Christmas tree pickup will be available for residents of the city of Beaufort and of Sea Pines on Hilton Head.
For locations and hours of county centers, go to www.bcgov.net/recycle or call 843-255-2736.
