How To ...

'Tis the season for twinkling lights, laughter and a stocking full of joy from the North Pole in our little corner of the world. The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's contribution to the fun starts at Saturday's Christmas tree lighting, a family-friendly community event, and an island tradition.

Head over to the Hilton Head Island gathering place for children's activities that include face painting, holiday crafts and photo opportunities with Santa. Christmas carols, holiday crafts, treats and a musical performance by the cast of "Singin' In the Rain," add to the holiday kick off.

WHEN: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday

WHERE: Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 14 Shelter Cove, Hilton Head Island.

COST: Free

DETAILS: or call 843-842-2787.

Don't miss Sea Pines Plantation's start of the holiday season with a 7:30 p.m. tree lighting at Harbour Town. Singer/songwriter Gregg Russell will perform following the ceremony.

Stroll along the harbor and enjoy the illuminated seasonal figures, with the centerpiece being a beautiful 30-foot Christmas tree. While getting into the holiday spirit, bring canned goods or a new, unwrapped toys, and drop them into the well by the Liberty Oak stage.

For a complete schedule of holiday activities, visit, or call The Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department at 843-842-1979.

Step away from the box-box store and support your local merchants at Coligny Plaza's Black Friday outdoor market celebration from 2 to 5 p.m.

Shop and enjoy the holiday activities at the 60 shops and restaurants at 1 N. Forest Beach Drive on Hilton Head. The event also features music by Cranford Hollow, food trucks, street-style vendors AND bounce houses for the kids. Santa Claus will make his appearance in a helicopter above Coligny Plaza and will then pose for photos with the kids.
