Bridges Prep names new head of school
Bridges Preparatory School has announced the hiring of a new head of school -- veteran-principal Nick Ithomitis -- who will oversee the launch of the charter school’s high school program in 2016-2017.
Ithomitis’ new position with Bridges Prep is effective July 1, though he will work alongside interim-Head of School Bob Bohnstengel during visits to the Beaufort charter school this spring to familiarize himself with the staff and students.
Bridges Prep has seen enrollment grow by 42 percent since it opened in Aug. 2013, and will expand to include ninth grade next school year.
Ithomitis has been principal of Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport, Maine, since 2005, and previously served as principal and assistant headmaster at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H. He told Bridges Prep his varied experiences in education have prepared him well to take Bridges Prep to the next level of achievement.
“I believe that the fundamental purpose of education is to help prepare students for success as productive adults,” Ithomitis said in the release. “As part of this purpose, it is the school’s responsibility to pass on the cultural capital of America.”
