Oratory contest set at island high school
The Arthur E. Wiley, Post 49, of the American Legion will host its second annual D. H. Dare Maness Oratorical Contest at 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at Hilton Head Island High School's Seahawk Cultural Center. This year's "A Constitutional Speech Contest" targets developing a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution by high school students.
The local winner will compete at the Quadrant level that includes nine Lowcountry counties with the chance to advance to the national level and compete for scholarships, including an $18,000 first place prize.
