Gwozdz elected chair of Beaufort County School Board

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect that the chair, vice chair and secretary terms will last until January 2024.

Christina Gwozdz of District 9 was elected Tuesday as chair of the Beaufort County School Board, replacing David Striebinger, who died in October.

Richard Geier of District 4 was elected as vice chair, and Angela Middleton of District 6 was elected secretary.

Their terms will last until January 2024.

Gwozdz, who represents portions of Bluffton, Pritchardville and Daufuskie Island, was the only member nominated for chair. She became a board member in January 2017. She previously served as chair in 2019, 2020, 2021 and as interim chair after Striebinger’s death.

Four new members and three returning members were also sworn in Tuesday. Their terms will run through 2026.
