Beaufort High ‘shots fired’ reports deemed a hoax. What parents should know
Following a Wednesday morning “report of shots fired” at Beaufort High School that was later identified as a hoax, students will be dismissed early, according to a school district spokesperson.
Law enforcement lifted the over four-hour lockdown, which the school has been under since 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, to send students home at 1:55 p.m. Buses will arrive early to take students home, spokesperson Candace Bruder told The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.
Parents who wish to pick up their children can get them at the Beaufort High School football stadium, Bruder said.
Buses at other schools may be delayed due to Beaufort High School’s early dismissal.
At 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were called “for the report of shots fired,” according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. The school was put on lock down in response.
By 11:10 a.m., the school was “rendered clear,” according to an alert from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
At 1:55 p.m. a message went out to parents giving “the go ahead for bus riders and student drivers to be released soon from the stadium and be bused to their respective cars and school buses,” according to Bruder.
No gunshot victims or signs of a shooter were found.
