Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School mourns loss of ‘beloved educator,’ officials say
Grief counselors will be on campus this week to help students and faculty work through the loss of a Jasper County middle school teacher who passed away Saturday, according to a school district press release.
Violet Rhodes taught math at Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School over the course of her 30-year career in education, according to the press release and her school bio. She passed away Saturday, the press release said.
Rhodes’ cause of death, along with her age and hometown, were not immediately available Monday. The release did not say how long she taught in the district or at the middle school, and a spokesman for the district declined to release more information.
Rhodes was a “beloved educator,” who was devoted both to her students and colleagues, the press release stated. She was originally from Lucea, Jamaica, where she was a teacher at the Ministry of Education, according to her Facebook page.
Outside of the classroom, she enjoyed cooking and volunteer work. She was a “judge-appointed” advocate for children and a member of Lions Club International, a global network of volunteers dedicated to community service. While math was her primary focus, she also had experience teaching reading and language arts.
Rhodes considered herself a lifelong learner, according to her bio, and held the staunch belief that “one is never too old to learn.”
Information about funeral services was not available.
