You might see several police cars at a Bluffton elementary school this week. Here’s why
Motorists driving past M.C. Riley Elementary School this week might be alarmed by the number of police cars they see — but it’s just a drill, district officials announced Monday.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Bluffton police and fire departments to conduct active shooter training at the school, district spokesman Jim Foster said in a press release.
The training will take place Tuesday through Thursday in sessions that run from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
“Active shooter training will not include simulated gunfire, but passers may see officers running into the school as part of the simulation,” Foster said. “Training will continue next week at Battery Creek High and Red Cedar Elementary.”
