Jasper district wants to know parents’ opinion on schools reopening after coronavirus

Ahead of schools reopening in the fall, Jasper County School District wants to know what community members are thinking about the coronavirus pandemic.

The survey will be available from June 3-7 in English and Spanish, according to a news release from the district.

Travis Washington, spokesman for the district, said those who would like to complete the survey will be able to find a link to it on the district’s Facebook page and website at www.jcsd.net. An email blast also will go out to all parents of students in the district on Wednesday.

Along with parents, guardians and students, employees and members of the public are invited to take the survey, which has questions meant to help school district officials narrow the “multiple possibilities” being considered for reopening.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster closed school buildings in March, and students switched to distance learning through the end of the school year.

The Jasper district plans to open Aug. 10 for students in kindergarten through 8th grade and Aug. 17 for those in high school.

“It is premature to say how school will be conducted when students and teachers return in the fall,” the news release said.
