Beaufort County school bus struck by SUV. Bus driver being evaluated for injuries
A school bus driver is being evaluated for injuries following a Wednesday morning crash with an SUV.
The driver traveled north on Parris Island Gateway and attempted to turn left onto Forest Field Road when the driver of an SUV struck the bus near the front wheel area around 8 a.m., according to S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.
The driver of the 1996 Ford SUV was attempting to turn left from Forest Field Road onto Parris Island Gateway when he hit the bus. He was ticketed with failing to yield the right of way, Southern said.
None of the 13 students aboard the bus were injured, district spokesman Jim Foster wrote in an email. A substitute bus picked up the students and dropped them off at Robert Smalls International Academy in time for classes.
