This Jasper County school will be closed for the week, thanks to the flu outbreak

Thomas Heyward Academy in Ridgeland will be closed for the remainder of the week due to the number of students out sick with the flu, according to the school’s website.

The announcement Tuesday afternoon said school officials decided to cancel classes and have students work from home because so many students were out with the flu and other illnesses. Classes are planned to resume on Monday.

Class assignments for the independent kindergarten through 12th grade school will be posted online Wednesday through Friday for students to complete outside of school, according to the announcement. Staff will perform extra cleaning measures while students are away. Sports and school activities will be rescheduled.

Last week, Beaufort Academy on Lady’s Island shut down classes for the lower grades as a precaution as the flu outbreak hit the area.
