Beaufort County School District holds second Saturday makeup day

The second and final of the Beaufort County School District’s makeup days was held on Saturday. Last spring, the school board designated only Saturdays as the potential makeup days for the first time since the 2013-14 school year, and two makeup days had to be scheduled to replace days lost due to the Hurricane Irma evacuation in September.

The first makeup day was held on Nov. 18.

At May River High School, according to Principal Todd Bornscheuer, 67 percent of the school’s 1,200-person student was in attendance on Saturday.

To get a sense of what attendance was like, we shot a time-lapse video showing May River students leaving school at the end of the day. The video shows students who are picked up at the school by their parents or guardians, leaving through the main entrance.
