Beaufort County schools: Kids don’t have to watch Trump’s inauguration. Parents reply: They should.

Associated Press

A mass email and robocall went out Thursday to parents of students in Beaufort County Schools telling them they could opt their children out of watching Friday’s inauguration of President Donald Trump.

That opt-out option has been there in years past, the school system says, but that didn’t stop many parents from getting upset that the option even exists.

The Island Packet & Beaufort Gazette Facebook pages were flooded with comments from parents, many of whom cited the historic nature of the day as reason alone for making viewing mandatory. Other parents, concerned about Trump’s previous statements, said they would prefer to watch the inaguration with their children at home and not at school.

Here’s a sample of what folks had to say.
