Domestic violence suspect pulls gun on deputy, later arrested
Marcus Williams, a suspect in an Estill domestic violence case who fled Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies with a gun in his hand Wednesday night, has been caught and arrested.
Williams, a 24-year-old Estill resident, was pulled over Wednesday on Hilton Head Island by deputies who recognized his Ford Crown Victoria with racing stripes and chrome rims, according to a sheriff’s office report released Friday.
When Williams’ car came to a stop at a Palmetto Parkway gas station, the deputy was “already partially out of (his) vehicle with … (his) weapon drawn,” the report said.
As Williams “exited the vehicle and turned, (the deputy saw) a silver ... pistol in (Williams’) right hand,” according the report.
Deputy reported that he pointed his service weapon at Williams.
“Williams never pointed the weapon in (the deputy’s) direction, he fled from the vehicle,” the report said.
Taking cover behind the suspects vehicle, the deputy “lost (sight) of the suspect” and when backup arrived, deputies were “unable to locate the suspect or the pistol.”
An arrest warrant was issued.
On Thursday evening, “cooperation from the public lead to us locating” Williams driving a Nissan on U.S. 278 near Simmonsville Road in Bluffton, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Bob Bromage said Friday.
With assistance from the Bluffton Police Department and the S.C. Highway Patrol, deputies arrested Williams, he said.
But, Bromage said, “the handgun was not recovered.”
Williams is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center on charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm and driving on a suspended license.
