A stolen Calibogue Cruises golf cart was found with a new driver, a 28-year-old Hilton Head Island man, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Miller Jr. was arrested just after 8 p.m. Saturday after admittedly driving the golf cart near his Oakview Road residence on June 11, according to Capt. Bob Bromage of the Sheriff’s Office. Miller has not been accused in the theft of the golf cart.

Miller was charged with receiving stolen goods valued between $2,000 and $10,000, a felony. He is being held at Beaufort County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing, Bromage said.

The cart was reported stolen June 3, and a Calibogue Cruises employee called the Sheriff’s Office to say he had spotted Miller driving the cart June 11, Bromage said. Miller told deputies he had purchased the golf cart from someone around the same time the cart went missing, Bromage said.

The cart’s Calibogue Cruises sticker had been removed from the front fender, but area where the sticker had been was apparent, Bromage said. The cart had some distinguishing blemishes that were made before the theft that helped identify it — a damaged fender and broken trailer hitches.
