Seven people killed on SC roadways this weekend
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were seven road deaths reported over the weekend.
Officials said one death occurred on an interstate, one occurred on county roads and five occurred on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads.
In two of the deaths, officials said a seat belt was used, while the five others did not use a seat belt.
As of Sunday, 339 people have died on state highways, compared to 366 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015. Of the 229 motor-vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 107 were not wearing seat belts.
Forty-three pedestrians have been killed compared to 43 during the same time period in 2015. Forty-three motorcyclists have been killed compared to 48 in 2015. Ten bicyclists have died in 2016 compared to nine this time in 2015.
