Dog dies in fire Monday morning at Bluffton development

A fire that started around 8 a.m. Monday in a rental home at The Townes at Buckwalter caused severe fire damage and left a dog dead, according to Capt. Randy Hunter of the Bluffton Township Fire District.

The fire also caused smoke damage to the adjacent homes. The unit where the fire started is being rented by a family with children, Hunter said, and no one was home at the time.

Hunter said the damage could have been much worse.

“The buildings were designed to keep fire from spreading to the adjacent town home,” he said.

Four engines with the Bluffton Township Fire District responded to the fire, along with the Bluffton Police Department.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
