Island man pulls knife on deputies, held on drug charges
A Hilton Head Island man was arrested Tuesday after he pulled a knife on deputies who subsequently found suspected heroin and methamphetamine in his vehicle at a Hilton Head gas station.
William Blume, 32, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute heroin around 8:30 p.m. after deputies received a call from an employee at the Speedway gas station on William Hilton Parkway, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
The employee told deputies Blume has been sitting at one of the gas pumps for half an hour and was picking at his face as he sat in his vehicle.
When a deputy arrived, Blume told him he had been infected by poison ivy after he searched for fire wood in the woods.
At that time, the deputy saw syringes in the vehicle near Blume's leg and asked him to exit the vehicle, the report said.
Before he left the vehicle, Blume grabbed a knife, the report said. The deputy convinced him to put it down.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found 1.5 grams of heroin, a metal spoon and plastic container with methamphetamine residue, five used syringes and a black scale, the report said.
Blume was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center and is being held on a $15,000 bond.
