Palmetto Electric warns of phone call scam

Palmetto Electric Cooperative Inc. is warning customers of a scam where a person claiming to be a company representative calls and threatens disconnection of electric services unless an immediate payment is made.

Customers who receive similar suspicious calls can call the electric company at 843-208-5551 so customer service representatives can help confirm a billing payment and the balance due on each account, according to a news release from the electric company.

Customers should never give out credit card numbers or personal information if they receive such a call, the release said.

Instead, they should call law enforcement, the release said.
