A Hilton Head Island man was taken to jail Tuesday after he allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle, sped away and ran from his disabled vehicle when deputies tried to serve him with two warrants.
Aaron Greene, 20, was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center on the charges of fleeing to evade arrest, simple possession of marijuana, first-degree assault and battery, loitering and two Magistrate Court bench warrants after deputies were called by a woman who said Greene was asleep in her daughter’s vehicle in a parking lot on Summerfield Court around 7:45 a.m., according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
When deputies arrived at the parking lot, they found Greene asleep in the vehicle. As he woke up, they ordered him to get out. Instead, he turned the ignition, put the vehicle into reverse and backed into one of the patrol cars at the scene two times before speeding away, the report said.
A deputy chased him in another patrol car until Greene’s vehicle broke down at the intersection of Summerfield Court and Spanish Wells Road.
Greene then leapt from vehicle and ran across Spanish Wells Road through the entrance to the Seagrass Landing subdivision, the report said.
The deputy chased him and continued to order him to stop until Greene collapsed from exhaustion near the woods on Jonesville Road, the report said.
During a search of the vehicle Greene drove, deputies found marijuana, the report said.
Greene is being held on a bond of over $52,000 at the detention center.
