Gunman robs Hilton Head Speedway
Deputies are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery at a Hilton Head Island Speedway store early Wednesday morning.
The robbery was reported around 2:15 a.m. at the Speedway on William Hilton Parkway, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
A cashier at the gas station told deputies she was stocking cigarettes when an African-American man — with dread locks; dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes; and with a black cloth over his face — came in the store and pointed a handgun at her, the report said.
The cashier opened the money drawer for the man, and he ran away.
She then locked herself in a closet and called 911, the report said.
